"What about Chicago?!" says every Republican in Indiana. I grew up there. The whataboutism is so tired and racist. The harm reduction we can achieve from banning AR-15s and instating other sensible gun legislation measures is not lessened if Chicago still has crime. And btw - where do people in Chicago (which has stricter gun laws) buy guns? Indiana.

If no gun legislation passes next week, I would like President Biden do executive orders:

1. Outlaw high capacity magazines

2. Have to be 25 years old to purchase any kind of gun. (can't rent a car unless you are 25)

3. Background checks are mandatory.

4. Registration for all guns.

5. Registration of all ammo

6. Ban the sale of military style weapons.

And let the Republicans take this to the courts. We can drag this out until the elections. Then we need to vote these people out.

The Republicans do not value the lives of children who are not their own! It is a horror show of epic proportions as they hide behind the cloak of overturning Roe vs. Wade, claiming to honor children. Is there anything more evil than the gunning down of very young children in a land proportion to celebrate rights and freedom? Are infant/maternity wards in hospitals next? We need to hold not just their feet but their very soul to the sacred burning fire of compassion and shame.

I think we should start calling the NRA the National Russian Association.

It’s been a very long time since Columbine. Things only got worse, and the outlook is grim.

Maybe it’s time to remember what prompted reagan to support gun control (hint: it was not sanity)

Michelangelo,

Please don't feel too bad when you go off on these morons who call into your show and try to spout off GOP talking points. Hearing you say exactly what I'm thinking is cathartic. And the other caller who insisted on his right to own a surface-to-air MISSILE to defend himself against a "tyrannical government" was particularly dangerous.

Did not bother to listen to the exchange because the anger would return. Former usa should look at itself and the erosion of the sanctity of life. RWNJ's hue and cry over prebirth life but hands over a big FU post birth. The lack of rapid response on the scene exposes the inherent racism. Getting arrested with the murder weapon and lived to see another day exposed the regards the law enforcement have for wytpipo only (see Rittenhouse). The whole cloth reinterpretation of the 2nd amendment was denounced by a conservative justice as a fraud is the reason we are where we are today. That a gun lobby is still convening in a state where the carnage occured is your big FU to the victims and their families.

(Abbott) Texas has passed anti abortion legislation. Republicans are anti American. We have 1,000,000. Americans who have died because of Covid, mass shootings, women are going to die from lack of medical reproductive care, even if they are raped they must carry the fetus to term. Abbott said he would prevent rape., he can't even prevent mass murder. VOTE THESE PEOPLE OUT........

Fred Guttenberg's post about the gun manufacturer is spot on:

"Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it," the post said, in reference to a Biblical proverb, followed by a prayer emoji. The post included a photo of a toddler sitting with an AR-15-style assault rifle on its lap. Daniel Defense also reportedly posted the same image and text on Instagram that day, which included the hashtag #childrenarethefuture.

The gun manufacturers are sick bastards. And they all uniformly misspell PREY.

Heard this live, he wants a surface to air missile too, what an idiot. Excerpt from LA Times today:

“California’s rate of gun deaths has declined by 10% since 2005, even as the national rate has climbed in recent years. And Texas and Florida? Their rates of gun deaths have climbed 28% and 37% respectively. California now has one of the 10 lowest rates of gun deaths in the nation. Texas and Florida are headed in the wrong direction.”

Because? California has strict measures. Also does the guy understand that most of the gun violence in places like Chicago are hand guns where you HAVE TO BE 21 TO BUY ONE? So there ARE gun regulations in this country. Does he want every one of those 10 year olds to pack? Because that’s basically what he’s saying. And it makes NO sense that we can let a teenager buy a weapon of mass killing AND 375 rounds and yet we can prevent him from buying a handgun. And then Boebert-Idiot saying we didn’t stop planes after 9/11 yes but we REGULATED the security around them and we REGULATED them by locked cockpits, etc.

I heard that. You were having none of it. When these losers know they’ve lost the argument, they always deflect, I’ve heard a few use the Chicago argument. They think it’s relevant to the discussion.

I have been stressing that OTHER countries don't have this slaughter, and have quite sensible gun laws (My Canadian colleagues believe the US is quite cukoo). That said, I have shared an idea with every single elected official, to perhaps, slow shooters down: BAN the sale of body armor to civilians. The security officer in Buffalo died when he tried to STOP that shooter, precisely because the shooter was wearing military grade body armor (as did the Uvalde shooter.). Body armor isn't protected by the 2nd amendment, is profoundly stupid for hunting for game (too bulky and NOSIEY), and would be an "easy do" for most legislatures since police officers HATE civilians having this. I did hear back from my assembly woman, and her staff is chasing this. If you think this is a good idea in your state, please pester folks!!!

I have three extreme positions to say.

#1 All public schools should have shut and locked their doors the day after the shooting. Principles, teachers and counselors should have walked out in a solidarity strike around the nation until law makers moved on a realistic bill to end this carnage and not open schools until they did so. We, the people, nead to show our power, if they continue to walk around with bank deposit slips taped to their foreheads open for any amount of money to be written in by the NRA.

#2 All the Untouchables, the people in Congress, Senators, House of Representatives and Supreme Justices who have children in private schools, should be forced to put their children in public schools. Then we will see sensible gun legislation flying off their desks in record numbers.

#3 Joe Biden, through executive order, like he did for Juneteenth and the massacre of a innocent Black community, should designate a National holiday for gun violence for the remembrance of all the victims in this country , the USA.. Maybe he should do 4, one for each season, Winter, Spring , Summer and Fall, so people are forced to remember our senseless tragedies.

I fear that the focus on the incompetency of the police will change the focus on reducing the number of guns. The lefts tendency to focus on the behavior of police gives the right room to claim it' a law enforcement issue not a gun availability issue. This is the script written by Republicans and it fools the press, Democrats and Progressives.

Mike, I was glad to hear the teachers and the two hunters who called in today (Friday) The hunters in particular underlined how unnecessary to hunting a weapon like the AR-15 is, even the man who hunted wild boars!

We need to recall that it was Dem Bill Clinton who signed an assault weapons ban in 1994, and George Bush the Younger who let that ban lapse in 2004. Blood is on the hands of people like Abbott and Paxton in Texas, but also Bush - we need to get assault weapons banned again.

Any fringe Republican who thinks they can arm themselves with things like AR-15s and 'save themselves from the government' is dreaming anyway, considering the kinds of weapons the U.S. has on hand if it wanted to 'get' regular citizens.

Last night on MSNBC, I saw a little boy from Robb Elementary, identity concealed, who was spared because he was hidden under a table with a tablecloth over it. He stated that the killer said something like, "You all have to die!" Another little girl spread blood on herself from her dying classmate and played dead. America has turned traumatizing our kids into a sick and depraved art form! I love what Sen. Murphy, Beto O'Rourke, that Sky News reporter, and others are saying and doing to get in the face of these GOP lunatics!
