I would like to see some journalist investigate if Amy Barrett has any connections to the ultra-right wing catholic group Opus Dei, are their members of People of Praise connected to Opus Dei? Is Barrett connected to the St.Thomas More Society? Another right winged group, with a history of taking up conservative causes, their head office is in Chicago. This group has a stable of conservative lawyers , who have currently filed a law suit against the California Governor Newsom and 4 other state officials, on behave of a Kern County CA, priest plaintiff, Father Trevor Burfitt, alleging that the state Covid-19 restrictions have stopped Catholics from “practicing their faith” which they argue is unconstitutional. This legal attack raises questions . We should attempt to find out who is financing this attack on the state? Their motives are so transparently political. We are heading into dangerous waters with legal attacks possibly ending up at the Supreme Court. This should be seen as an blanket GOP planned strategy to destroy what real democracy is still left in the USA.

The term “sexual preference” to refer to the LGBTQ community is beyond offensive and she knew exactly what she was saying. She constantly lied yesterday stating her personal beliefs would not interfere with her judgements. Every single non-answer she provided was steeped in her personal beliefs.

I wonder how much time was spent by the GOP as far as coaching her and teaching her how to answer questions in whatever coded language they all use to signal each other. For anyone who has not watched The Family on Netflix, I encourage them to do so because this is what’s happening in our government.

My son in California will always be ok I hope. But my heart aches for all of the LGBTQ people in states that are led by horrible homophobic individuals. Their rights will be gone. Suicide is already far too high against LGBTQ people. And those who are hateful will even act more violently against Queer Americans. There must be federal laws and protections in place. I am so heartbroken and fearful about this. I’m looking to you Michale as one of the voices I trust to give us some direction on what we do next to mobilize.

I wonder is this is a wise path you are taking.

For some is is an orientation. For others it may be a preference.

When one esconces the issue within the realm of biological determinism, the result is a fait accompli -- so I understand the approach and the need for it (I cannot fault you on how to rise up against a toxic culture that is resistant to gay love).

But in a truly free society, people should have the right to bond as they "prefer," without having to answer to anybody with regard to a biological issue.

I am also unnerved by how the Republicans have raised the specter of anti-Catholicism. I, myself, was raised Catholic. Only in later years did I see the subtle hypocricies. I am NOT suggesting that hypocrcies are unethical (we all have them). But if Barret is to be stopped, one must challenge her on the very way she identifies herself. I am sure there are contradictions in how she lives her life and how she professes to live her life. Calling this out is NOT anti-Catholic; it is an example of our common humanity, and we would all be served by seeing how she responds to her contradictions.
