Weekend open thread: The election is 51 days away!

Trump's campaign is going broke. His rallies are coronavirus superpreader events. And the West is horribly on fire. What's happening where you are?

This is an open thread for you all to jump in and discuss all the big issues, as we do every weekend, and just weigh in with what you’re up to this weekend. If you’re like me you, just can’t wait to get this election on — 51 days, feels like a lifetime!

Wildfires are ravaging California, Washington and Oregon, where 500,000 people have been evacuated and a terrible death toll is expected. It’s just awful, and another result of climate change, and as Governor Gavin Newsom of California warned, it’s the future of the whole country unless we do something. But we have a president, and an entire political party, that believes climate change is a hoax. Another reason why this election is so critical.

Donald Trump is not making a breakthrough in battleground states, per several New York Times state polls today, as his racist and panic-inciting rants about violence and his racist claims of suburbs being taken over aren’t getting the traction he needs. But no time to let up — and Joe Biden can’t take any vote for granted. Time to just keep hitting Trump.

At a Trump rally in Michigan this week, 5000 people gathered outdoors, on top of one another, without masks. CNN’s Jim Acosta interviewed a few of them. One man said Covid is a fake pandemic. Another said, “If I die, I die.” Of course, we wear masks not to spread the virus and potentially kill others.

Trump’s rallying today in North Carolina — and he once again told his supporters, via Twitter, to engage in actions that will create chaos on Election Day, mailing in their ballots and then going to the polls again — and there were few masks to be seen.

And Trump’s campaign is going broke, as he’s taken TV ads off the air in several states, amid indications his campaign has rapidly depleted funds (and is not able to raise a lot more), which the grifters who run it had spent (pocketed?) even though he’d raised a load of money. In Pennsylvania, Michigan and Arizona Trump ads have been off the air, which I’m sure many of you who live there are happy about.

What’s happening where you are? What are your thoughts as we are now 51 days for the election? And tells us what you’re doing. I’ll jump in throughout the weekend.

Another thing I'd like to add and get your thoughts regarding where you are. In New York City there's near universal mask-wearing -- on the streets, not just inside. This is even more than two months ago. It's like people, rather than getting tired of it, realized this is protecting us all. Also, I think people feel like they would be ostracized or just would stick out. I know it's that it's not the same elsewhere, so please tell me about where you are.

Hey Mike...

You left off one of their key Cult behaviors. They are STILL with him after insulting military service. Amazing. I always thought GOPers had core values, different from Liberals, but still values, and I could respect that. The last four years have shown me and, hopefully, the rest of the world, they ONLY care about power and "their side." I'm flummoxed and scared for our nation if they don't get a beat down at the polls and learn something.
