I agree that we must do everything we can to avoid a nightmare scenario of a MAGA presidency, whether it be Drumpf or Ron D. They would do little-to-nothing for any public health emergency coming down the pike. I don't even want a Larry Hogan presidency, who recently said that the FBI search of Mar-a-Lago did good things for The Former Guy's PR (he also went to Iowa). I don't want someone like him or Youngkin to win in 2024, either. We will need a good couple of decades of Democratic, Progressive Presidents to get America back on track, including renewing people's faith and confidence in public health and agencies like the CDC and WHO.
At 23 when I stepped meekly out of the closet only to have the door slammed back shut because my 1st civilian occupation was in construction and DC was a foreign land I had yet to discover as well as decipher. Lo these years later a pathogen has surfaced that has astounded me with the similarities of yesteryear. Covid made us retreat to our homes and Monkeypox is reminding us that the unevolved right wingers are still seeking to throw us back into the closet. Away from the DC bubble I see my home state gay community fractured along North, Central, and South lines. We endured a state government that cares only for the wealthy wytpipo who mirror 1930s Germany. Without a public health declaration we can only expect a perfectly preventable health issue to exacerbate the fault lines of a divided community.

I read that the smallpox vaccination I received in the 1950's is effective in preventing monkeypox; however, it was so long ago that I wonder how effective it really is.
