Just came from CVS and Sprouts, here in L.A.. Walked past the door at CVS with a sign that says wearing a mask is required by law. Walk in and right there at the register is a female customer without a mask on. Burned my ass, I was tempted to whip out my phone and take her picture. What damn good is a sign at the door saying masks are required if NO ONE is going to enforce it? WTF?
Stopped in at Sprouts (same center). Waited in my 6' protocol line outside. Got a disinfected cart upon entry. Again, very orderly, controlled entry, plenty of shoppers but not too many, everyone wearing masks, including the employees.
Was at Trader Joe's earlier today, same as Sprouts. Very well managed.
I'm so fed up with the whole reopening/masks-no-masks/pandemic-still-rising, and President The Trump co-opting the news cycle again and again and again, ad nauseam.
Was at Menards yesterday and was STUNNED to see literally every person in the store wearing a mask. Last stop was the garden center, and the wonderful woman checking folks out respectfully but firmly refused to open the doors for anyone not wearing a mask. I later found out this is Menard's policy, along with not allowing anyone under 16 into the store. Period. Mask or no mask. I absolutely love it!! I later called and thanked the manager for not only having these policies but strictly enforcing them as well.
I live in a tiny town of about 800 in Nebraska. Funny though, I get in Facebook battles with a few people who live here also. They post anti-mask stuff like it's unhealthy and tyranny; I post pics of me in my homemade mask and stories about why I wear my mask for "you."
I ventured out to Kroger’s on Mother’s Day for ONE thing I couldn’t find elsewhere (our Kroger brand in L.A. is Ralphs). ZERO social distancing protocols in place, no control of access in/out of the store, apparently no mask requirement. I know, it was Mother’s Day, but everyone was freaked out in the store because there were so many people, no restrictions, unsafe distances; you could feel everyone’s tension. I couldn’t wait to escape. Got in the car and my wife called and asked for “one more thing” and I declined - on Mother’s Day - told her “I’m not going back in there.”
Been shopping at Trader Joe’s and Sprouts mostly. Both stores with full protocols in place: restricted entry, masks, sanitized carts and baskets, floors clearly marked. Sane, civilized, orderly. Occasional foray to Vons (our Albertsons brand after they bought Safeway): similar protocols, very orderly and organized.
I have no plan to go to Ralphs again. Glad to know that what I experienced at Ralphs was Kroger policy.
Been to Costco I think twice during the pandemic: similarly ordered, protocols, etc.
Out on the street in the neighborhood for dog walks, many people both with and without masks; some, like us, wearing masks down until approaching others, then we pull them back up.
We’ve noticed a real relaxation overall, though, and it’s disconcerting because the numbers are still climbing. Since what we’re doing is working, it’s too soon to relax. We have to resist neighbor friends who want to get together, which isn’t easy at all.
I live in Seattle and most everyone I see wears a mask and it's become a new social norm.
We're a high tech city and follow the rules pretty easily. A local joke is that one can tell a real Seattleite if you wait for the crosswalk to change at 3:00 AM in the morning in the rain. If you wait, for it to change, you're a native.
Wearing a mask shows you believe in science. As such, it's a refutation and a threat to the world view of many of these willfully ignorant and selfish people.
