I worry that will open the door for the GOP to do the same when they get control again, let’s make sure that Won’t happen for awhile. And I asked myself, would they add to the court if they were faced with our challenge?

McConnell would sell his wife for the opportunity to nominate a conservative justice!

As an attorney, the demise of SCOTUS has been sad to watch. The steady erosion of legitimacy under Roberts has been thinly disguised by the occasional fig leaf thrown to issues of equality, but there can be no pretense any longer. When an institution has lost both moral and legal standing, it is simply a hollow partisan shell. SCOTUS is now a conclusion in search of a justification. There are no longer decisions to render, just a papering over of Federalist Society dictates. I've no idea how law students will be taught, given that precedent is meaningless and equality is simply an obstacle to corporate profits. Once people cease to view SCOTUS with any respect or honor, then it simply becomes 9 robed people issuing opinions that will be ignored by the populace and derided by historians. Expanding the Court would stem the tide of fascism, but as long as Roberts, Kavanaugh, and Barrett are seated, SCOTUS will remain a shadow of a once-revered institution.

Democrats MUST win and we MUST reform and expand the courts. Your article is excellent and I will share it with Catholics and trump voters I know. Sadly it won't change their minds but I cannot resist! It is interesting that Pope Francis is doing all of this now. I agree the timing is uncanny. I made calls again this morning in North Carolina and it is amazing the response from people. Many people are eager to talk and to talk about the tyranny and how we must end this hateful administration right now. Most people are voting Democrat the whole ballot so praying for those senate seats too!!!

Pope Francis has indicated by living outside the Vatican City that he has issues of trust with the ultra orthodox Catholics who live and work within the Vatican City. Many nuns, priests, and laypeople working for the Vatican are known members of the Knights of Columbus and Opus Dei, with extremely right winged views, similar to the statements, writings and bench decisions of the current SCOTUS nominee. There is every concern that Amy Coney Barrett has connection with directly or indirectly with Opus Dei ,as does our Attorney General William Barr. The “orthodox” Catholics oppose Pope Francis, and see him as an illegitimate Pope, they see Pope Benedict XVI , who was a strong defender of conservative theology, as there legitimate leader, Amy Coney Barrett will expose her true outdated ideology in the coming months, unless Justice Roberts has some influence on her. Barrett’s “originalist beliefs” apparently doesn’t extend to the fact that women had no rights when the Constitutions was originally written.”Originalist” justices are dangerous to our nation’s equality and democracy.
